Wed: Check in. Hospitality Suite.
Thursday:
On Thursday morning we eill have a Gymkhana - a triathlon to test your
driving skills in your nimble 190 SL. Following will be a tour/rally
through the Piedmont south of Athens. This is beautiful rolling hill
country which promises to be a great top-down event. In the evening we
will have a welcoming reception in the nearby Georgian Hotel ballroom
Friday:
Two miles long and 1,000 feet deep, Tallulah Gorge will be the
destination of our Friday tour through North Georgia. If we are
fortunate, the leaves will have begun their fall show in the higher
elevations. Dinner on Friday evening is on your own at one of the many
fine downtown restaurants.
Saturday:
Let the Concourse begin. The event will be held at the Athens
Classic Center located directly across North Ave from our hotel. We will
be joined by the Atlanta MBCA Peachtree Group with their annual
Concourse. In an adjacent meeting room, technical sessions covering
Solexes, painting, differentials, wiring harnesses, and purchasing a
190SL are planned.
A tour of antebellum homes in nearby Madison, with shopping and lunch
will be available for the ladies. In fact, we are located in the
incredibly lively downtown Athens area which provides ample opportunity
anytime for interesting strolls through shops and galleries. The old
campus of the University of Georgia is also located adjacent to the
downtown area.
The awards banquet will be held Saturday evening in Firehall No.1. which
was incorporated into the Classic Center structure.
Sunday:
A member breakfast and meeting will be held in the hotel banquet room,
followed by a short tour through farm country toward the main highway
arteries. We will have a picnic lunch before saying goodbye to our
fellow 190 SL enthusiasts.
Sunday thru Wednesday:
After the Ball: For the die-hard enthusiast, the tour will continue
through the North Georgia mountains, up the Richard Russell
Raceway-ahem-Parkway, stopping at the Greystone Inn in Hiawassee for the
evening. The next day will be an absolutely breathtaking drive into the
North Carolina mountains and up the Blue Ridge Parkway. The evening will
be spent in Waynesboro. On the final day, we will continue on the Blue
Ridge Parkway to Asheville for a tour of the Biltmore Estate and spend
our last evening around Lake Lure. The location is a good jumping off
place for those traveling up the East Coast, to the Midwest, or south
towards Florida.
