The afternoon of day two brought scattered showers so the tops stayed up.
| Map of day two, from Paonia, lunch in Crawford and ending in Lake City. |
| We stayed it the Bross Hotel in Paonia for the night. A great B&B. |
| We hung around Paonia for the morning, allowing Don Drabik to clean the carwash stall before using it. |
| We visited the "High Country News", a mostly environmental newspaper with national coverage. |
| Ed Marston, the publisher, invited us to sit and chat awhile about the west and the environment.. |
| Another photo opportunity in front of the "High Country News". |
| While stopped for lunch in Crawford, we visited a glass blowing studio. |
| A few trinkets were purchased, the larger items were very beautiful, but pricy. |
| Off to another mountain road. Just a long constant 7% grade. |
| While stopping to enjoy the view ..... |
| Robby noticed that Pea Soup was squirting gas (caused by the heat, altitude change and grade). |
| Further south, we came to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. |
| The weather was overcast with showers but the views were fantastic. |
| Brian, Kathy, Don and Shirley enjoy the view. Note the lack of guard railing. |
| It is hard to photograph or even describe the steepness of the canyon. |
| Somehow group pictures were required at every stop. Here we are at Hermit's Rest area on the north rim of
Black Canyon. While here, Bruce and Herbert blew bye. |
| This is a beautiful canyon. |
| The final drive was down along Blue Mesa Lake on the Gunnison River and turned south along Lake Fork of the
Gunnison River to Lake City for the
night.. |
